HUGS FOR SOLDIERS, founded in 2003, is a ministry of Duluth First United Methodist Church, Duluth, Georgia.  The ministry was started as a way to support and provide encouragement to U.S. military personnel who were deploying overseas.  

 

With the help of church members and the community, Hugs for Soldiers started sending care packages, cards and letters of encouragement overseas to the 2-69 AR, a Battalion of 800 Soldiers of the 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, based out of Fort Benning, Georgia.  Along with many supporters and volunteers, the program has grown to what it is today. The Hugs for Soldiers team maintains contacts with deployed military commanders, chaplains and other responsible troop leaders in order to send shipments of care packages.  

 

We are in our 20th year of supporting the troops and our program has grown from writing letters to a few Soldiers to touching the lives of thousands.  

 

HUGS FOR SOLDIERS is a completely volunteer program with no personnel costs; 100% of all proceeds are used to support our military heroes. Hugs for Soldiers is a ministry of care team within Duluth First United Methodist Church, and as such operates as a non-profit organization.  The church is a 501(c)(3), therefore, all donations are tax deductible.

 

HUGS FOR SOLDIERS has garnered national support and was named by Scholastic Parent Magazine as one of the Top Ten organizations in the United States to offer support for our troops.
